Autumn
A short walk around the corner sets me up for that . . . ah . . . sniff . . . autumn. Keep your eyes on the colors of the autumn foliage, wear wind-chills of November, pace on crisp leaves on the ground, and you are outdoors during the full months of autumn. Autumn is included in my upcoming book, Rendering the Dream Beyond Yesterday, as with all seasons —spring, summer, and winter.
Autumn
Once a whiff of warm air fell upon a timely call of fall,
Trees’ shoots swayed and danced; heeled in tapering trim leaves,
Only few, dearth, while meager spoors cling, few spray,
And everywhere, maples pierce in greens,
By rare—birches cheer and zest in orange,
Trees’ shoots swayed, danced; heeled in tapering trim leaves,
Fallen russet leaves lay on the foliage,
Rive and ruffle, snap and crack by crisp, crinkle in the bark,
By rare—birches cheer and zest in orange,
I step, pace, stomp before I walk,
Tree leaves, branches, everywhere, waver and careen, rock and roll,
Rive and ruffle, snap and crack by crisp, crinkle in the bark,
Lest the sun sets in dim below which belie angels,
Her hues of lilacs, dahlia too, blend with whites,
Tree leaves, branches, everywhere, waver and careen, rock and roll,
Her tints of hyacinth light up like a beacon in the sky,
Off in the sky like fireworks sparkles bright when lights flare,
Her hues of lilacs, dahlia too, blend with whites,
Like bonfire tapers off in the flicker to grey coal as it wears,
So later, alfresco, fade, wash down to sundown,
Off in the sky like fireworks sparkles bright when lights flare,
Before twilight ensues, her crescent moon looms,
The day dissolves taken in by the night,
So later, alfresco, fade, wash down to sundown,
And it begins again the next day at daylight,
So bathe in the sight, as we scuff, scour,
The day dissolves taken in by the night,
Away with today’s pelt and rind on this Indian summer,
Once a whiff of warm air fell upon a timely call of fall,
So bathe in the sight as we scuff, scour,
Only few, dearth, while meager spoors cling, few spray.
