Oatmeal Without Occasion
Oatmeal for breakfast is like porridge on a rainy day. Or chicken soup on a cold-stricken day. Well, I had a cold-like symptom today, but I managed to taste the sour sweet blueberries, comforting bananas, and tangy crunch of my apple. Because oatmeal is like porridge, it soothes my stomach and works like a light and filling bowl. Only I need not wait for a rainy or sick day.
I tasted the scintillating sour tang of the blueberries alone before the oatmeal. Then the Cosmic Crisp apples took a fresh twist on the tang that adds a bit of crunch to my meal. Bananas melt to a gelatinous coat that dissolves in my mouth. I like to taste a few bites of fruity pieces before they become soaked in simmered oatmeal.
The oatmeal simmered and thickened enough to cool where it met up with bananas that were the bones of a chicken soup. They drew out the soggy grain with coated, clean sweetness, like cornstarch in a Chinese stir-fry dish. While I like my oatmeal with more water and oatmilk, some may prefer a light bowl. I have enjoyed jellylike shark fin soup bowl; I’ve also liked gooey congee bowl in the morning; and I’ve fared well with creamy broccoli soup. But I hope you find your pieces for this warm bowl – I reckon you take a few pieces or bites before you simmer the stove.
